Phnom Penh: The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, on Tuesday, July 20, extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of Lieutenant Colonel Kheng Chhay Yut and Lieutenant Colonel Sun Phalla, pilots of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, following the tragic crash of a Z9 helicopter during a flight training mission on Friday, July 12, 2024, in Thmor Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
In a sorrowful letter addressed to Ms. Chhem Kalyan, Ms. Khan Chanthul, and their families, Prime Minister Hun Manet conveyed his deepest sympathies upon hearing the news of the pilots' untimely deaths. He emphasized that the loss was profound not only for the families but also for the nation, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the two pilots in their service.
"In this time of deep sorrow, my wife and I extend our condolences to you and your families, as well as to the pilots, officers, deputies, and all the soldiers in the unit," stated Prime Minister Hun Manet. "We express our deepest sympathy for this great loss. The passing of Lieutenant Kheng Chhay Yuth represents the loss of a husband with a strong social bond with his wife, a devoted father to his children, and a courageous, experienced pilot of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. His heroic sacrifice in serving the nation, religion, and the King, and in defending our territorial integrity, will be remembered forever."
Prime Minister Hun Manet also offered prayers for the souls of the departed pilots, honoring their dedication and ultimate sacrifice for the country.
